MONROE — The CC Bucking Bulls and Barrels launched the first of six grandstand events for the 2023 Green County Fair on Wednesday, July 19.

The bull riding consisted of four sections, with Dakota Warnken of Wakurusa, Indiana coming out as the champion. He rode Whipper Snapper for the full eight seconds, finishing with a score of 85.5.

A rider’s score, ranging from 0-100, is based upon both their performance on the bull and the bull’s performance. The more in rhythm the rider is with the bull’s movements, the higher their portion of the score will be. For the bull, the more difficult the ride appears to be, the more points are awarded.

In addition to bull riding, the crowd was treated to 14 different riders in barrel racing. Natasha Napp, the first contestant, took first with a time of 11.827 seconds. Hailey Kolb followed in second with a 12.484, while Olivia Check took third with a time of 12.645 seconds.

In barrel racing, a rider and their horse attempt a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels in the fastest time. If a horse misses a barrel or runs off course, their time is not counted, and if they knock over a barrel a five-second penalty is added.

The remaining grandstand events included the Badger State Tractor Pull (Thursday), Green County Fair Local Truck and Tractor Pull (Friday), Antique Tractor and Horse Pull (Saturday), SWIRA Dirt Bike and 4-Wheeler Races (Saturday) and 845 Demolition Derby (Sunday).
