Volunteers sought at ADRC
ADRC

MONROE — The Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) asks local residents to consider volunteering with the organization. The ADRC is a place for anyone to start if they have questions about issues related to growing older or maintaining independence.

According to the Green County ADRC, it has been proven that volunteers have lower mortality rates, less depression, increased brain activity, are more physically active, and have greater levels of well-being. Plus, they are helping solve community problems and enhancing the health of the members of their communities.

Volunteering can be a part of a healthy lifestyle, and there are a variety of opportunities available in Green County. Volunteers play a unique and important role in helping people in local communities.

Volunteer opportunities include being:

●  A home delivered meal driver. Community members young and old, retirees, second-shift workers, and even employees at local businesses and organizations help deliver meals. Each day, this group of dedicated people find time to deliver meals to homebound seniors around Green County.

●  A Driver Escort. For those that enjoy driving to different locations while chatting with a new friend. Volunteer Driver Escorts utilize their own vehicles to transport passengers to and from their destination, such as medical appointments, grocery shopping or other personal trips. Volunteers make their own schedule and are reimbursed at the IRS reimbursement rate per mile. They can drive once a month or 20 times a month; it’s completely up to the volunteer.

●  A Volunteer at the Adult Day Center. The ADRC is fortunate in Green County to have a licensed Adult Day Center called “Hand in Hand” that provides activities and a safe environment for older adults experiencing physical and/or cognitive changes. Join the ADRC staff in helping with activities such as exercise, crafts and games.
