MONROE - On Saturday, Feb. 8, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland Council will begin selling cookies door-to-door as part of the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

A Girl Scout cookie purchase supports girls to do great things in their communities and encourages them to change the world, which is the theme of the 2014 program. All Girl Scout Cookie Program proceeds stay in the community and girls set cookie goals to transform her cookie profits into experiences.

The new season brings two new cookies: Cranberry Citrus Crisps and gluten-free Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies. The Cranberry Citrus Crisp is a whole grain cookie with tangy cranberry bits and citrus flavor. The gluten-free cookies are bite-size shortbreads packaged in a resealable bag. Badgerland Council is one of a few Girl Scout councils selected to test market the cookies this year. The gluten free cookies retail for $5 per package.

The mainstays of the program include: Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lots, Caramel deLites and Lemonades. All cookies are zero grams trans-fat per serving. The price for a box of cookies is only $3.75.

Badgerland Cookie sale dates are Saturday, Feb. 8 through Sunday, March 23. Additionally, Girl Scouts will be holding community booth sales throughout the sale.

Saturday, Feb. 8 is the ideal day to launch a cookie sale because it's National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend. Girl Scouts across America will join together in celebration of the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Millions of American girls have participated in the rich tradition of selling Girl Scout cookies as a way to finance troop activities. The earliest cookie sale dates back to 1917.
