MONROE — Green County Genealogical Society Inc announces that it has received a grant from the Monroe Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc. to support their project entitled “Computer Purchase.” With this grant the Green County Genealogical Society is able to purchase two new computers. MONROE — Green County Genealogical Society Inc announces that it has received a grant from the Monroe Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc. to support their project entitled “Computer Purchase.” With this grant the Green County Genealogical Society is able to purchase two new computers. The computers will enable volunteers to do indexing of records or for visitors to the research center to search records. This grant is made available from the Community Foundation’s Monroe Fund. The Monroe Fund is a resource for area nonprofit organizations whose programs and services are working for the betterment of our communities. Grants from the Monroe Fund have supported the arts, education, environment, health and human services and historic preservation.

The GCGS Research Center is located in lower level of the Monroe Public Library and is available to the public for research. Research Center hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and third Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Saturday after the meeting. Friday summer hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. June through September at the Research Center. For after hours, leave a message at 608-921-1537. 

Someone will return the phone call. Main holdings are on Green County. Both Rock and Lafayette Counties are well represented as well as several other counties, states, countries and ethnic groups. A large clipping collection of births, marriages and obituaries is available. Volunteers are on staff to help with your research.

Monthly meetings are held at 10 a.m. the first Saturday of the month in the second floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library, 925 16th Ave. Light refreshments are available 15 minutes before the meeting. Visitors are always welcome at the meetings and there is no cost to attend. The Sept. 1 meeting is “Early Cheesemaking in Green County” with Donna Douglas from the National Historic Cheesemaking Center.
