MONROE — On Saturday, Oct. 5, Green County first responders participated in the first Annual Green County Public Safety chili cook-off.
The public was invited to join in for a free-will offering. The chili was judged by three guest judges, in addition to a People’s Choice award.
SSM Medical Control/ED won first place, Monroe Police Department took second, and Green County EMS took third. The People’s Choice was awarded to Monticello Fire/First Response.
Other participating departments include Monroe Rural Fire Department, City of Monroe Fire Department, and Green County Sheriff’s Department.
This event was not inly a fun opportunity for public safety officers and departments to compete, but also to support charitable causes. Each department selected a charity of their choice to donate proceeds. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the event raised over $600. Proceeds were given to Family Promise of Green County, Monroe Police Department Scholarship Fund, and Green County Child Advocacy Center.
