Farmers' market set for Sunday

MONROE - The Monroe Holiday Farmers' Market is set for 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church, 1025 15th Ave. This family-friendly market showcases the growing number of area farmers championing sustainable and organic agriculture and connecting the community with locally grown food.

Free and open to the public, the Monroe Holiday Farmers' Market will take place in conjunction with the monthly Loaves and Fishes Community Meal, which will be providing a free turkey supper from 4 to 6 p.m.; market attendees can attend.

The market will offer a range of local products, including winter squash, potatoes, pickles, sauerkraut and artisan cheese. Fresh turkeys from Riemer Family Farm, Brodhead. Local authors Lisa Kivirist and John Ivanko will be signing their award-winning books, including "Farmstead Chef," "Rural Renaissance" and Ivanko's children's books.

The Monroe Holiday Farmers' Market, hosted locally by Loaves and Fishes, is sponsored regionally by Markets and Meals for Hope, a joint project of the nonprofit Churches Center for Land and People and the Harvest of Hope Farm Crisis Fund of the Madison Christian Community.

In addition to Loaves and Fishes, the Monroe Holiday Farmers' Market is supported by the Wisconsin Farmers Union South Central Chapter, Transition Green County, Green County Area Women in Sustainable Agriculture, Boy Scout Troop 180 and Harvest Ninja.
