MADISON — Discover Wisconsin, the state’s leading media brand and tourism TV show, will be shining the spotlight on destinations that celebrate Wisconsin’s unique dairy heritage throughout the state in an upcoming episode.
The episode premieres at 10 a.m. May 2 on Fox Sports Wisconsin. The episode is available now for streaming on Roku, Apple TV, SmartTV, Google Chromecast and Amazon Fire. This episode was produced in partnership with the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin.
Co-hosts Marie Justice and Jack Taylor kick off the episode at the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center in Manitowoc. In addition to 10,000 feet of exhibit space, filled with interactive and educational activities, the center offers a bus tour of a local dairy farm, and the opportunity to visit the Land o’Lakes Birthing Barn, where visitors can witness a calf being born.
Next, Taylor heads to the National Historic Cheesemaking Center in Monroe to learn about the history of cheesemaking in Wisconsin. The NHCC offers guided tours, which includes a video on the art of cheesemaking.
Right next door to the NHCC is the Imobersteg Cheese Factory. Here, Taylor finds out more about the early tools and equipment used in cheesemaking. Justice takes us to the next dairy destination, Cedar Grove Cheese in Plain, where she learns about their unique, environmentally-conscious way of making cheese. Justice talks to the owner, Bob Wills, about the “Living Machine” and the unique way it is used to clean the water used in cheesemaking.
A visit to Nasonville Dairy, right outside of Marshfield, wraps up the episode. Here, Ken Heiman is interviewed about Nasonville Dairy’s legacy and dedication to cheesemaking. Before heading home, Justice stops by Weber’s Farm Store to find out more about their locally sourced products and why they’re so important to customers.
Destination Dairy is also featured in Episode 13 of Discover Wisconsin’s official podcast, The Cabin. The episode premiered April 28 and will be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and various other podcast streaming apps.
