BRODHEAD - Beginning Saturday, Jan. 26, Speth's on Exchange will host a monthly night of jazz during the dinner hour from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The event features the talents of guitarists Frank Calvagna and Mike Youngblood.
Known as the Frank and Mike Guitar Duo, they regularly perform at clubs, cafés and events throughout the Wisconsin-Illinois area. With a repertoire consisting of a variety of contemporary, Latin and smooth styles of jazz, they can appeal to a wide variety of audiences. Although they are categorized as jazz, there is a definite focus on recognizable contemporary modern music. This includes instrumental versions of well-known tunes by artists like George Benson, Eric Clapton, Bill Withers, Ray Charles, and Earth, Wind and Fire.
Frank is a Brodhead resident who has performed throughout the Midwest with his seven piece group Opan Jii. He has shared the studio and stage with a host of well-known musicians and, most recently, he organized the Jazz Fest during the 2007 Brodhead Covered Bridge Days.
Mike Youngblood has performed throughout the Midwest as a solo classical guitarist, as well as with a variety of dance-oriented bands.
