MAC seeks artists to display works

MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center (MAC) is seeking artists interested in exhibiting their artwork in the Frehner Gallery during the 2012-2013 gallery season.

Frehner Gallery hosts 10 to 12 exhibits per year, including its annual photography Contest and Exhibit, and the Wisconsin Regional Arts Program.

Exhibiting artists must be at least 18 years of age and their artwork must be original. Eligible techniques for two-dimensional works could include media such as photography, painting, drawing, mixed media and printmaking. Techniques for three-dimensional works could include media such as sculpture, textiles, clay, metal, glass, and wood.

Trees and shrubs available for spring

MONROE - The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department is offering nine varieties of hardwood trees and three varieties of shrubs for landowners interested in planting trees in spring.

The cost is $2 per tree with a minimum order of 10 of one species.

The department is taking orders until Thursday, Dec. 29, with a delivery date during the week of Monday, April 23.

The tree varieties are bur oak, red oak, swamp white oak, white oak, black cherry, sugar maple, shagbark hickory, hackberry and butternut. Shrubs available are serviceberry, hazelnut and elderberry.

New chef for meal program for seniors

MONROE - Starting Jan. 1, senior dining locations in Monroe, Brodhead and Albany will have a new chef and the Green County Aging and Disability Resource Center invites those who qualify to sample the cuisine.

The dining locations offer homemade food prepared locally by Pleasant View and served fresh. Meals are designed to meet the nutritional needs of the mature diner; special dietary needs can be accommodated.

Library to host Mrs. Claus Dec. 20

MONROE - The Monroe Public Library invites area families to a program of stories and music as it presents "Christmas Fun with Mrs. Claus" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20 in the library's meeting room, 925 16th Ave.

There is no charge for the program and no reservations are required.

Mrs. Claus will bring a magic greeting from Santa's elves, use her scissors to tell a story and share a book filled with surprises.

Santa will join Mrs. Claus at 7 p.m. to take last-minute requests from children.
