VERONA - Monroe teachers Kelli Brunton, Shelly Trupke, Christine Ruegsegger, Sara Bille, Valerie Hoesly, Barbara McArdle, Tony Stagliano, Marlea Johnson, Loren Homb, Juanita Butler and Heather Peterson attended the 17th annual John Muir Academy for math, science, and technology July 26-30. The academy was hosted by Verona High School.
The John Muir Academy is part of a statewide staff development program, partially funded by local businesses, to improve science, mathematics, technology and other core areas in education. The workshops provide teacher participants with teaching tools to engage their students in hands-on activities in these critical subject areas.
The Wisconsin State Standards for teachers and students, along with national standards and assessment, are important components of all the workshops. Each weekly session includes discussions and tours with business and industry officials to help teachers understand ways in which math, science and technology are applied in the workplace.
