ALBANY - The Albany Community Center will host the annual Hooked on Fishing event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 3 at the Albany Legion Park. Admission is free and the event is open to all school-age children.

Preregistration is preferred, but registration is also accepted by 10 a.m. the morning of the event at the Legion Park.

The first 50 children pre-registered will receive a free box of worms courtesy of the Albany Mini Mart and will be entered in a drawing for a two-hour limo ride donated by Abracadabra Limousine.

The contest rules are: Fish must be caught on the Sugar River; participants must be present to win all prizes; fish must be legal to keep - if not, catch and release; everyone needs to dispose of his or her own fish; and fish should be brought back to the park by 12:30 p.m. to the registration booth for judging.

There will be prizes in several categories. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There will be minimal supervision in the Legion Park area. The Lake Winnetka/Sugar River Improvement Association Inc. will be handing out additional prizes for the largest carp and the most carp caught. The Sugar River General Store will have food available for purchase.

Volunteers are needed still for the event, especially people to help weigh and measure fish at the end. To volunteer, contact Suzi Gould, Community Center director, at 608-447-1163 or suzi.gould@albany.k12.wi.us. Registration forms are available at the Albany School District Main Office, Albany Community Center or at albany.k12.wi.us.
