To the editor:
April 3 is Election Day and a time for folks to fulfill their responsibility by going to the polls and casting their votes.
The Brodhead School Board has two positions to be filled.
I will be "writing in" Tom Simpson on the ballot. Many of you know "Doc" Tom Simpson as a well-known local veterinarian and owner of the Sugar River Veterinary Service.
I have known Tom for a number of years, and he is highly informed and educated on items that come before the Brodhead School Board. He regularly attends the district meetings and is knowledgeable of the needs, and how state funding affects the district. He understands that when things need to be done, it must be done responsibly and in a manner that best provides for the students while considering the will of the community.
A few months ago the present members of the school board, by a vote of 5-2, voted to take out a $1.3 million loan. A petition had been circulated, collecting signatures of folks who asked that this be put as a referendum and brought before the people to vote on. Tom was instrumental in the formation/circulation of the petition. He, like the many who signed, believed that this was an item that the people should have a vote on. The signed petitions were submitted to the school district and the board canceled the project contract with Honeywell.
School board members are elected and are the principle democratic body in the representation of the citizens in local education decisions, with a decisive role in public education policy and school system administration. Tom will be an asset to the school board.
Join me and "Write in Tom Simpson" for school board on the April 3 ballot.
You must write his name in as it will not appear on the ballot.
Thank you.
