We can't afford Waelti's tax proposals

With our economy in such bad shape, electing candidates at the state and national level who understand the financial burdens facing seniors, families and small businesses is critical. People need to carefully study the positions of candidates and then make up their mind about who will help us the most.

In the race for the 80th Assembly District, I was surprised to learn of the extreme tax increase positions taken by our candidate, John Waelti. If all the tax increases Waelti wants come true, Wisconsin very likely will be the No. 1-taxed state in the country.

As a senior on a fixed income, I cannot afford all the tax increases Waelti supports. First, he supports repealing levy limits on municipalities and the counties, which will increase our property taxes. Second, Waelti supports repealing revenue caps on schools, which increase our property taxes even more. Third, Waelti wants to increase corporate income taxes, which will hurt small businesses and force us to pay more for goods and services. Fourth, Waelti is willing to raise the sales tax on items currently exempt like agricultural goods, which will hurt our important agricultural economy. Fifth - as if these aren't enough tax increases - Waelti supports state government-run health care, which we know is a $15 billion proposal, amounting to a $510 per worker per month tax increase in Wisconsin.

In tough economic times, seniors, families and small businesses simply can't afford the extreme tax increase positions that John Waelti supports.

Make sure your voice is heard and vote Nov. 4. Vote Brett Davis.
