From Steve Larson, Darlington
Last week's Republican Journal had an ad to vote for Jack Sauer in the upcoming recall election for District 3 Supervisor. This ad was paid for by "Citizens for Truth in Government." The registration papers for this group were filed at the County Clerk's Office on Monday, July 18, 2011 at approximately 9:15 a.m. These papers only require that the name of the treasurer be listed, and the person for this group is Catherine Krentz, Administrator of Lafayette Manor. This concerns me for the following reasons:
1. Did Ms. Krentz file the papers, and place the ad, while on county time?
2. Were Code of Ethics laws, specifically Wisconsin Statutes 19.59 - "Codes of ethics for local government officials, employees and candidates", followed?
3. Lafayette Manor is listed three times in this ad. It went so far as to say "Support Lafayette Manor by voting for Jack Sauer". As she is the administrator, isn't this basically the same as saying "Support Catherine Krentz by voting for Jack Sauer"?
4. At the forum Mr. Sauer stated that he had no knowledge of the ad in the RJ. The ad included a photo of Mr. Sauer. Is it legal for someone to publish an ad about them without their knowledge or permission?
Contrary to what Jack stated at the Candidate Forum on July 20, 2011, while the group, Lafayette County Taxpayers for Positive Change, was out collecting signatures for the recall petition they did not tell voters that he wanted to close Lafayette Manor. The reasons for the recall were clearly stated on each sheet as Jack's actions in county meetings, and his continued support of a department head's decisions that sends money out of the county. LCTPC do not know Jack's intentions, nor did they state them to the District 3 voters.
As witnessed by those in attendance at the candidate forum, Krentz's inappropriate language and actions continue, without apparent repercussions. I encourage you to call county board members with your concerns about Lafayette Manor management. It is time for an investigation and review of Krentz by the full county board.
