From Brett W. Condon, Brodhead
To the editor:
I'm a conservative; never voted Democrat in my life. I don't stand with Walker, I stand with workers. I stand for the right of workers to organize. I stand for the right of workers to bargain for work-place rules and conditions. Every worker in this state, union or non-union, public or private, should be alarmed. If Walker survives recall, he will go after private sector unions next with right-to-work legislation. And it won't stop. Do we really want to go backwards to employer abuses? Have we forgotten our past: the blood, sweat and tears shed by others that brought us reforms like the 40-hour work week, and a little thing called the weekend?
Millions in hard-earned compensation, and more, have been taken from middle-class workers in a single swoop through clever class division and raw political power, while giving equal millions in tax breaks to business interests and supporters. Ruling, not governing, with the raw majority rule, deception, coercion, secrecy, indifference, arrogance and disrespect - this is poor leadership. This is reason enough to recall despite any accomplishments. This is the issue; honest, open and inclusive leadership.
Our division, and all of its associated costs to taxpayers, are the responsibility of Mr. Walker alone. The buck stops at his desk. His own words and actions reveal an "us" and "them" mentality when he should be governing for all Wisconsin citizens in fairness, compromise and respect. He has "divided" our state, and it remains to be seen if he "conquers" anything.
