From Roc Ordman
Monticello
With the election nearing, I would like to respond to some campaign slogans I have heard from some candidates. Claim: "Government regulation is bad. It hampers private industry in doing its job." Response: The mission of private industry is to make profits, not to promote welfare. Lack of strong government regulations led to oil in the Gulf, deaths in mines, and poison in our children's toys. Industries pay fines rather than take care of human welfare.
Claim: "We need to cut government spending." Response: One in seven Americans is now poor. One in eight depends on food stamps or else their children will go hungry. Children are our future. Let us feed and educate them so they can give us a bright future.
Claim: "Global warming is not caused by humans or carbon dioxide." Response: Do not elect someone who is so ignorant of reality that they believe nonsense. All legitimate scientists accept that humans are causing global warming through producing greenhouse gases, and that the consequences will be disastrous for our children's lives and world.
It is especially important that those in need vote for candidates who will protect our public services and national honor.
