Volunteering brings many lessons

It has been some time since my letter describing my experiences volunteering at Pleasant View Nursing Home. I am continuing my daily efforts there and each day brings with it a new lesson from those older and much wiser than I.

Today (Friday, April 1) that lesson was about voting in our great Republic. Before each election, arrangements are made for election judges to come to the nursing home and allow those who wish to exercise their right to vote the opportunity to do just that. For those eligible and able to vote participation is high. These are people who lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and each national crisis since. The responsibility to participate in determining the future is one that they take seriously. Some may wonder why, in the twilight of their lives would so many be so determined. They still are concerned about their own futures, but also, want to do their part to leave behind a country that their children, grand children great-grandchildren and great-great-grand children can enjoy and prosper in. So, if so many in their eighth, ninth and tenth decades of life can make the effort, why wouldn't everyone?

Lastly, I would love for any who reads this, to join me as a volunteer here at Pleasant View. You will gain much more than you give.
