Even: ‘Greetings from Monroe’ mural project phase two begins
Melissa Even

As you may recall in February 2020, we announced our “Greetings From Monroe” Mural Project. Our intent in Phase 1 was to replace the lackluster chain link backstop that was previously used for temporary community event signs with the “Greetings from Monroe” Mural.

With respect for priorities concerning the COVID 19 pandemic, we held off on the fundraising phase of our project but moved forward with the physical sign portion of the project. We completed the first phase of the project in August 2020. It proudly serves as the welcoming message we intended and has become a backdrop for amazing photo opportunities!

Moving into Phase 2, we want to initiate our community-wide fundraising efforts and bring the entire project to life. We have revised our timeline for fund raising to July 7th and hope to begin the physical construction of the benches and flower boxes in Mid-August. We still have a lot to accomplish this summer, but with your help we will complete our goal. There has been many wonderful memorials submitted. There will be more than one pet being immortalized in our walkway for sure. Many thanks to those who have already committed to our project!

In recognition to those who have put their blood sweat and tears in the the project I wanted to give them a shout out. Starting with the two other committee members, Melissa Thompson and Craig Fuchs, Adam Bansley, who designed the mural image, PDC who installed all our electrical, Tru Home who built the framing and secured the image. Lamar outdoor advertising for donating the vinyl image. Our heavy lifter in all of this will be KC’s Landscaping. The Owner, Kasey Tousignant has offered us some wonderful design plans and I am excited to see it all come together.

We hope you will embrace this opportunity to highlight your business or someone special to you. The project reflects the many contributions individuals and businesses have made to our wonderful community. Visitors entering our historic downtown are greeted with our welcoming message. Perhaps they will stop to look at all the names on the bricks, explore the images in the mural and take a picture!

This year we also revamped our Chamber membership shields to reflect our mural. We would love to have your company, organization, or loved one recognized in this community beautification project.

Our vision has come a long way and now we are in the final stretch to bring the project to completion. We invite you to be part of a lasting legacy in our community. Bricks and pavers are available to commemorate businesses, organizations and individuals that have contributed to Monroe.

Here is how you can help bring our vision to life, We are offering commemorative bricks so you can have permanent recognition. Businesses, organizations, families, and friends can have a part in our History. A wonderful way to remember those of our past, present, and future of Monroe.
