Carper: Test drive Green County Leaders
Cara Carper

Looking for an opportunity to learn new skills and adapt to new changes? Green County Leaders is pleased to provide an incredible opportunity for everyone who lives and/or works in Green County and wants to improve their leadership skills. The only cost is your time.

Normally we would just be starting a new Green County Leaders class, but due to COVID-19, we’ve pivoted away from full-day, in-person classes every month for nine months to virtual sessions over the lunch hour. Join us for all sessions, or pick and choose those that best fit your interests. Our first class is from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9. The focus will be on how we as leaders can support our communities.

Classes will continue each month on the second Wednesday of the month from noon to 1:30 p.m. through May 2021. To receive instructions on how to join our Zoom meetings, registration is required. Register for individual or all sessions at the Green County UW Extension website green.extension.wisc.edu under GCL 2020-2021: A Year of Adaptability.

If you are interested, but are unable to join a session due to your schedule, we still encourage you to sign up. Sessions will be recorded and if you register, you’ll be notified when the session is posted online.

Who Should Attend?

Even if you don’t consider yourself a “leader,” please consider that we all have influence — whether it be influence at work, in our communities or with our families. At its core, leadership is influence and the trust people have in you.

Green County Leaders Alumni — Alumni are a vibrant group who strongly identify with their Green County Leaders tribe. Alumni will benefit from new material never before seen in their Green County Leaders classes.

Green County Leaders Wannabes — Everyone who would like to attend Green County Leaders classes but haven’t yet been able will get a taste of what they’ve been missing.

The Best Employees in Your Company — Sadly, one of the first benefits employees lost due to COVID was professional development. Travel bans, social distancing and shrinking budgets have limited opportunities. These classes are a great, cost-efficient way to invest in your employees.

YOU! — Maybe you’ve never heard of Green County Leaders. These sessions will provide just a taste of what you can expect when we return to full-day, in-person classes.

The Fine Print

Green County Leaders is an educational program for adults to practice leadership skills, deepen their understanding of community issues, and prepare for leadership roles. The program has created a network of active and visionary individuals who leverage their experience and expertise to benefit their community and local community-based organizations.

All sessions will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m.:

Session 1: Leadership in Supporting Community: Wednesday, Sept. 9

Session 2: Leadership & Local Government: Wednesday, Oct. 14

Session 3: Civility & Civil Discourse: Wednesday, Nov. 11

Session 4: Health & Wellness: Wednesday, Dec. 9

To be as flexible as possible for leadership topics in our quickly changing world, topics for the 2021 sessions will be announced in December. Dates are listed below so you can mark your calendars now.

Session 5: Wednesday, Jan. 13

Session 6: Wednesday, Feb. 10

Session 7: Wednesday, March 10

Session 8: Wednesday, April 14

Session 9: Wednesday, May 12

There is no financial cost to join any session for the 2020-21 year. The 2020-21 Green County Leaders Year of Adaptability is a “light” version of the program open to anyone who lives or works in Green County. It is not the full experience — it is our version of keeping people together with timely and thought-provoking topics. If you enjoy some or all of these sessions, we encourage you to apply for the 2021-22 class.
