Thompson will be missed by NG schools

This letter is to express gratitude and appreciation for the six years of service Barbara Thompson has given the New Glarus School District as the district administrator.

Over the years, Mrs. Thompson has been able to operationalize the district's strategic plan that the board and community committee created prior to her coming. She continued to be diligent throughout the years when faced with the challenges of implementing programs and making necessary staffing adjustments. Her solid judgment and ability to identify talent (highly qualified teachers) has led this district to a point of educational excellence and high accountability.

The school and community have seen many changes throughout Mrs. Thompson's leadership here in New Glarus. Among those changes has been the increase of the fund balance from a negative to its current level of nearly 20 percent. We have updated many curriculum areas, building maintenance (safety projects) and technology systems. This has been made possible thanks to the passage of the community-supported recurring referendum. This referendum has improved our school facilities and enhanced the quality of instruction, which impacts our children's education and school experience on a daily basis.

It is in our interest to continue to see the district grow and strive for excellence upon the foundation Mrs. Thompson has laid for the School District of New Glarus' students and community. In order to prepare our children for the future, we will need to continue the visionary and proactive thinking Mrs. Thompson has modeled in her six years as district administrator. We would like to see continued growth, which will require commitment from the community to support future school district endeavors.

Mrs. Thompson's words of advice, her expertise and innovative thinking will be greatly missed. We wish her the best and believe she has created a district that can sustain change, continue to be innovative, and be recognized as a school district of excellence.
