Green County Genealogical Society

Recently, the Green County Genealogical Society wrote a letter asking for available space to hold their library. Our dreams were answered by Laura Winters of Kookaburra's in Monroe, when she called to say she may be able to help.

We are very thankful to her for the space that we have recently leased. It is our hope that GCGS will be able to offer a genealogical research library in Monroe for those that are searching their families in Green County. In the future, we hope to have some regular hours and be open by appointment.

GCGS has many resources that have been stored. Some of these include many obituaries from the early 1900's as well as marriages and other local news. In addition to that, we hope to offer some mini classes in how to do your research, how to preserve your family documents, and other classes of interest.

The best of all is that it is right across the street from the courthouse and only a short distance away from the library. The Green County Historical Society is a couple of blocks to the north. This is a researcher's dream come true for Green County. We will be holding an open house in the spring and then will be open on set hours and/or by appointment.

Thanks again to those that have been interested in our endeavor and we hope that when we open, you will come and visit us.
