Support our schools

I support the school children's referendum April 5. First: Let's be sure to separate the important but contentious state politics about unions and budgets from issues concerning the education of our children. Everybody has legitimate political concerns that need discussion and solutions. But this is NOT what the referendum is about. The referendum is about a very different issue. It's about being able to continue providing an excellent education for our kids and grandkids. Let's not get the two issues confused.

Second: Our school board and administration have done a fine job over the last 4 years since the last referendum of trimming the fat from our schools and conserving our school tax dollars. But again state money for schools is being cut even further and operating costs keep climbing making additional funds necessary to maintain our schools' high quality.

Third: I understand our money and personal finances are strained. So we must be careful and make hard choices as to how to spend these dollars. I think that education is crucial for our kids, our grandkids and our community's future and is a top choice to support.

Finally: Please consider the needs of our children and vote YES for the school referendum April 5. It's the right thing to do.
