Eighteen months ago, I had an accident that resulted in my spending almost nine months in two Madison hospitals. Since my release and return home to Monroe, I have been maintaining my constant care at Monroe Clinic. Before that I hadn't been to the Clinic in 10 years. I do remember the grumbling and rumors of a decade ago when the clinic service was "old school." The scuttlebutt was that their motto then was "Let them wait and suffer." Rumors of possible closing and poor business decisions were pervasive.
The extensive time I spent in hospitals has made me something of an "expert" on patient care. I have met all different types of caregivers, some exceptional, some average, and some below average. When I returned to Monroe, the old rumors lingered in my mind and I was concerned. It turns out I had nothing to worry about, as everyone has been kind, considerate and intent on giving great care. They truly exemplify the Clinic motto, "Take good care." I started asking questions of doctors, nurses, occupational therapists and volunteers. I asked, "What's going on? Everything is so positive. What's changed?" The answer always WAS the same. Everyone pointed to Mike Sanders and his administrative directions. He brought loads of positive energy to Monroe Clinic and it was infectious. My own experience at the Clinic has been nothing put positive.
From rumors of closing not so long ago, Monroe Clinic has moved to plans for expansion largely due, I believe, to the positive culture change. So, thank you, Mike Sanders and your administration for your dedication to the Hippocratic Oath and for "walking in the footsteps of Jesus." Thank you for sustaining and improving Monroe Clinic services for the residents of Monroe, the surrounding communities, and the area. To all the staff at Monroe Clinic for so much positive energy, a big thank you!
