Next Tuesday, Oct. 6th, voters in Green County will be voting on a referendum to keep Pleasant View Nursing Home open. We are writing to encourage residents to vote yes to keep the nursing home open. We have seen firsthand, by our mother/mother-in-law being a resident there, the excellent, quality care the staff provides. They strive to make every resident feel at home. When you walk into the nursing home you get a sense of an "at home" type of atmosphere. The staff also does a wonderful job of communicating with the patients' families. The staff is always very professional and works hard to give individual care to all its patients and treat them all with the utmost dignity.
Another consideration that may not have been considered in the past is what the personal and financial effects of the closing of Pleasant View would have on the Green County area. The impact of a closing of the nursing home would have very serious impact on the residents that live there. Many of these residents look to Pleasant View as their permanent home for the remainder of their lives. Many have made Pleasant View their home for years. A closing of the nursing home would take this home away from them. This would be traumatic for all of them, especially those with cognitive difficulties. Where would these residents go to live? There are not sufficient vacancies in Monroe to house them all, and maybe not even in the near-by area. The closing would create a traumatic hardship for most of the residents.
Another consideration is the financial and economic impact the loss of jobs at Pleasant View, and the loss of the income from support services would have on the Green County area, especially Monroe. The loss of those jobs and income would be a hardship for the employees and the Monroe and area companies that do work and provide services for Pleasant View (like the loss of jobs in Janesville not just from the GM plant closing, but all the other businesses that supported and served GM in Janesville), but also for the businesses that those employees support with spending their income in the Monroe and Green County area.
A final consideration is the loss of the financial impact that the visitors to Pleasant View make in the Green County area, buying gas, eating meals out, and doing shopping while in Monroe visiting residents of Pleasant View. Since we live in Blanchardville, and visit our mother/mother-in-law at Pleasant View, we find that we sometimes eat a meal out, and do a little shopping in Monroe while visiting her at Pleasant View. In these times of a difficult economy Green County should be working to keep every business and service that they can, rather than closing a business that might seem expensive or non-profitable without considering the financial implications that might not be evident on a business balance sheet. There is more to this than just the income statement that Pleasant View can show.
Therefore we encourage Green County residents to vote to keep Pleasant View open on next Tuesday, October 6!
