With all the protesting and political incivility in Madison, I often worry if Lafayette County is being represented in Madison. However, after meeting Howard Marklein, I feel secure that our priorities are the priorities of our state representative.
For the past two years, I know Howard has made it a priority to consult members of both parties when he drafts his bills. Both Democrats and Republicans alike have voted for his bills and 96 percent of bills Howard voted for were supported on a bipartisan basis. He helped pass a budget that eliminated a $3.6 billion deficit. This is not something I want to pass on to my children and grandchildren. He also froze property taxes to alleviate the tax burden on all of us.
Howard makes serving his constituents his top priority. I feel comfortable calling him, knowing that he will call back personally to address my concerns. Howard even sent me a plaque for my birthday. Howard truly cares about his constituents. He may not agree with you politically, but he will always listen and take your perspective into consideration before voting. Howard has been an independent voice in Madison and will continue to work with members of both parties to get the job done. I encourage all of you to join me in voting for Howard Marklein on Nov. 6. He is deserving of another term to represent us in Madison.
