There have been some challenging times the past months, and with the election of a new president we look forward to the future. One of the ways that we can look forward to more optimistic times is through literacy efforts.

The mission of the Literacy Council of Green County is to provide person-to-person opportunities for anyone wishing to improve skills in reading, writing and speaking English. There are many people in Green County in need of an opportunity to improve their lives by gaining confidence in their reading, writing and speaking skills. Students in the Literacy Council program work diligently to make their lives and the lives of their families stronger through their commitment to the learning process. Green County truly is blessed to have very generous volunteer tutors who give of their time to ensure that those in need of the services offered receive them in a timely manner. There is much laughter and many words of "thanks" shared between the tutors and students. The "thanks" come in many languages, as our county is becoming increasingly diversified. The Literacy Council of Green County, LTD. embraces the wonder of learning and expands our world to the richness of new cultures.

There always is room for more tutors to share their love of the English language with others through volunteering as a trained tutor. Training is offered at no cost to participants, and you are encouraged to contact the council for further information.
