Letters to the editor: Both parties must favor working class

To the editor:

There were some interesting things happening on TV on Nov. 13, starting with, when CBS' "Face the Nation's" John Dickerson, interviewed Sen. Bernie Sanders said he and Sen. Elizabeth Warren would be more than happy to work with Donald Trump on a fair Pacific Trade pact because they believed in trade pacts but they have to be fair for the working class.

Another issue Sen. Sanders talked about was Donald Trump saying he was for the working class and Bernie said, "We'll see." Is Donald Trump going to oppose Wall Street? Give tax breaks favoring everyone or just the elitist one percent? Is Donald Trump going to protect Social Security and Medicare?

Mr. Trump said he's going to build infrastructure and Sen. Sanders said he could agree on this, depending what kind of bill comes up. Another thing he mentioned is that Donald Trump better change his attitude about global warming because Sen. Sanders believes global warming is important. I, myself, believe clean air and water is essential in this country and worldwide.

In another issue that the Republicans are trying to magnify is that they won a mandate to govern and the announcer said, "No, you didn't. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote." They also interviewed Sen. Cory Booker and asked him about the protests and he said there's nothing wrong with that as long as it's peaceable. In fact we've had people marching and rallying in Washington, D.C. under Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I believe one of the more interesting issues was when they talked about getting a new DNC (Democratic National Chairman) and they interviewed Rep. Keith Ellison and he might be a candidate for the job. Personally, I feel Howard Dean should run again because he said it's a full-time job and this gave Howard Dean even the opportunity to come to Monroe and emphasize what helps the working class, when Obama ran for his first term.

Hillary Clinton's major mistake was when she didn't take Sen. Bernie Sanders as her running mate because she did edge him out in the primary. Other presidents like Ronald Reagan and John Kennedy did and it worked. Sen. Sanders has a new book out, "Our Revolution."

Since the Republicans didn't win a mandate, the issues that are discussed, so long as they are for the working class - that's the way a democracy is supposed to work.
