Wellington: Judge Janet is the best choice
Letter To The Editor

By Charles R. Wellington

To the Editor:

As an attorney for over fifty years, I’ve encountered numerous judges. The qualities that I always hope for in a judge are fairness, judicial temperament and the ability to listen to all sides of a case. Judge Protasiewicz meets those criteria in spades.

She would come to our highest court with excellent credentials. She was an Assistant District Attorney for twenty-five years. In that capacity, she became very familiar with the criminal side of the law. I find it an extreme fabrication of the facts to see the commercials portraying her as soft on crime. Ever since Willy Horton, one can count on those types of ads being run in the hopes of scaring the electors. DON’T FALL FOR IT! She is not soft on crime.

Judge Janet cannot be put in a box and labeled. That will always be the case with fair minded judges, as it should be.

Daniel Kelly, on the other hand, has proven to be the opposite. He is more of a political operative than a judge and that’s where he should focus his efforts — in politics. His brief stay on the court was as a Scott Walker appointee and in his last bid for the Supreme Court, the electors rejected him.

Wisconsin has more to deal with than gerrymandering and abortion, but those issues certainly are going to need thoughtfulness and sound legal judgment. Wisconsin needs Janet Protasiewicz on the Supreme Court.
