To the Editor:
Donald Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, was on the television August 8 on the Lawrence O’Donnell Show, and commented the big mistake her uncle made was to “think this guy, Merrick Garland, is not bold enough to come after me.” Donald apparently made that judgement comparing Merrick Garland’s slimmer, shorter body compared to Donald’s larger one. Big mistake. But her final answer to Lawrence’s question “How do you feel, Mary?” said it all for me and many others, “There is a lot still to be learned but — I feel vindicated. Donald Trump is being treated as someone who is not above the law.”
When I thought about the many times Donald Trump got away with his wrongful boldness, I asked myself, “When is anyone going to say to him, ‘No, you cannot do that.’” I know he was the president but he abused his power and abused the truth when he was fact checked over 30,000 lies he said while he was the president. We did not know what to do about all this. And to some Americans I believe it will be shown, he acted either like a god or like a martyr and played on their emotions. When he told them he loved them, that was unfortunately the biggest lie of all along with the big lie that the election was stolen. By that time his followers did not want to hear facts that judges in 64 of 65 courts found no fraud in the 2020 election.
It might have been too hard to believe that all he said was a lie after lie. He had an answer to everything. “Democrats made up the numbers.” “Obama started ISIS.” “Doctors and nurses are greedy.” He defiled any good thing. He divided the nation with his lies and truth was buried under all those lies he still says now. I hope work on climate change will bring us back to “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” With Donald Trump there will be no freedoms, no liberty, no democracy — only him. It is time for us all to grow up and reach out to one another. The Danish people know how to do it already. They work 5 days a week and spend their weekends together with each other and are the happiest people in the world.
