To the Editor:
Russia has taken over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council. The position rotates alphabetically amongst the permanent members of the Council. America and the European Union are protesting because member nations are required to abide by and hold up the principles of the Council and Russia is not doing so as a result of Putin’s War on Ukraine.
The United Nations Security Council needs to be reformed and the name changed to the United Nations Senate. It should include the permanent members of America (U.S. and Canada), Australia-New Zealand, Brazil, China, European Union, India, Japan, and Russia. Instead rotating the presidency, the members of the Council should elect a president. The world has changed since 1945 and it is time that United Nations and its member nations to recognize this fact.
