Searles: Republican healthcare is a joke
Letter To The Editor

From Dave Searles

Brodhead

To the Editor:

Republicans in the Wisconsin State Legislature are refusing to allow the state to accept additional Medicaid money from the federal government. They favor their private choice health care groups that they created that are a joke. This joke does not cover many of the needs of Wisconsinites, including myself.

I’m visually impaired with a number of eye and vision problems. I have needed new glasses for six years, but the present Republican joke for health insurance will not cover the medical necessities required for my glasses. I have not had a dental exam in decades. My last full medical exam was 12 years ago. I have since then had a groin hernia that has grown to the size of a softball and I have a number of other medical problems that need addressed or monitored.

I also have the problem of the Wisconsin Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and Rock County Human Services burning me with every medical provider in Rock and Dane counties, except Saint Mary’s, now SSM. These medical providers believe that I owe them money for what DVR and Human Services would not cover, although I legally do not. An SSI lawyer burned me with the Monroe Clinic so that the Monroe Clinic claims they have a no trespassing order and a court imposed restraining order on me, though in reality they don’t. When the Monroe Clinic merged with SSM, this carried over to SSM. There is nowhere for me to go for medical care. The Republicans private choice health care groups are too weak to advocate for me.
