Monroe
To the Editor:
My wife and I are proud to wholeheartedly endorse Steve Mayer for the Monroe school board. Steve and I first became friends back in 1978 when we worked for the same company. Steve moved on and eventually I did too, but we stayed in touch.
It was in 1998 that we came back together for work for a nationwide company that was starting a new operation in Monroe. In just a couple short years, Steve had the opportunity to take on a whole new role in transportation and became the terminal manager and my, boss that turned into a 25 year, great friendship! During that time, Steve ran as many as 7 or 8 different hub terminals, that dealt with different corporate entities. That meant, overseeing every aspect of not only all of our terminals’ drivers, but all of those other terminals as well. That also included all of the equipment, maintenance, records, scheduling, budgeting, and yes, all of the personalities that came with overseeing that many employees. It also meant dealing with all of these other corporate contracts as well! I can’t tell you how many times that I was in the office to personally hear how he dealt with all of the issues that would come up! Steve handled it all with professionalism and class.
Steve was raised a farm boy, right here in Monroe, who knows how to work hard, work practically, and fix things that are broken and will never leave an issue open ended. He follows up on everything. He also knows that things are always changing and there are challenges to be met. His wisdom, intelligence, integrity and experience as a problem solver will be a great and welcome asset on our school board! He will put his heart and mind into this school board position because he knows that the betterment of our Monroe’s student’s educational success DEPENDS on it!
