From Melissa Mulliken, Campaign Manager for Jane for Judge
Madison
To the Editor:
As voters go to the polls to choose the next Green County Judge, the Jane Bucher for Judge campaign would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight concerning some of the mis-statements in recent letters to the editor.
● No political party has endorsed either candidate in this campaign.
● The Jane for Judge Committee is running a non-partisan campaign focused on bi-partisan support. Jane’s more than 300 endorsers include judges appointed by both Republicans and Democrats, Attorney Kelli Thompson, the daughter of Gov. Tommy Thompson, former Green County district attorney Robert Duxstad, former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler, retired Monroe Police Officer Luann Radke, current and former prosecutors Corinne Frutiger, Laura Kohl, and Jeff Kohl, and community and business leaders John Baumann, Norah and Mike Sanders, and Deb Carey.
● Voters will make up their own minds about what kind of experience best prepares someone to be a Green County Circuit Court Judge. Jane Bucher is in local courts every day and has handled more than 2,300 cases in Wisconsin Circuit courts. Jane has tried six jury trials. Ms. Phillipson has chosen a different path in the law. According to public records maintained by the Wisconsin Court System, during her career Ms. Phillipson has handled a total of six cases in Wisconsin Circuit Courts, including three in Green County Circuit Court. None of those Wisconsin cases are criminal cases and none were jury trials. There can be no dispute about that factual record.
The historic nature of this race shines through. Voters on April 6 will elect the first woman judge in Green County’s history. Given Jane’s unmatched courtroom experience and her lifelong dedication to public service, our supporters trust Jane Bucher as the best, most qualified candidate for this tough job. After today, the letters to the editor in The Monroe Times will cease and voters can do what our democratic process asks of them: consider the facts, weigh a candidate’s credentials, and make their own choice.
The deadline to submit a Letter to the Editor regarding the April 6 election was Wednesday, March 24. Letters submitted after the deadline will not be published.
No Letters to the Editor regarding the election will be published in the Wednesday, March 31 or Saturday, April 3 editions of the Monroe Times.
