Scott Walker likes to tout numbers when he’s campaigning…
But there are some very important numbers he always avoids.
For example, he doesn’t mention the fact that since he was elected, our state has lost 150 manufacturing plants — and that only 11 other states in the whole country have lost more than we have. It’s understandable that he fails to mention that during the same period, Minnesota added 394, or that Michigan added 2,290. He’ll also forget to mention that when he took office our state ranked 7th in manufacturing job growth — and that since he’s taken office we’ve dropped to 24th in the country in manufacturing job growth.
Another thing Scott Walker won’t tell us while he’s campaigning is that while he invests billions of our very hard-earned tax dollars in a huge foreign corporation that won’t even see a return on the investment for 40 years, our state has dropped to dead last in the country in small business start up activity for the last three years in a row! He’ll forget to mention that investing money in start up activity would keep our hard-earned money in our communities and state — or admit that investing in a foreign corporation takes our money not just out of our state, but out of our country.
Of course Scott Walker won’t boast about the fact that our roads continue to disintegrate into cow paths, or about our skyrocketing state debt, or brag about slashing budgets because of lack of revenue while our state continues its slide to the bottom of the heap.
At some point, even the most patient or loyal Walker supporter should ask themselves a very important question: “How much longer can I afford to wait for fiscal policies to start working?” Or, to put the same question another way, “How much longer can I afford to sacrifice my own best interests and tax dollars before I finally admit to myself that it just doesn’t make any sense to keep doing this anymore?”
