To the editor:
Now we know, it’s OK to unconstitutionally stall your opponent’s Supreme Court nominee for two years, then ram through your own in two months without due process. It’s OK to have a man who abused alcohol, is seriously accused of sexual assault, and who still has visible lack of self-control, put on the highest court of the land. It’s OK to have a racist, misogynistic, tax-evading, dictator-loving, pathologically lying hate-monger in the White House.
In this land of immigrants, it’s OK to hate the newest immigrants. It’s OK to say you support working families, then never raise the minimum wage to a living wage. It’s OK to say you’re for affordable health care, then do nothing constructive about it. It’s OK to defund public schools and funnel tax dollars to private schools. It’s OK to defund higher education, and force students striving to better themselves to go into massive debt. It’s OK to ignore the science of climate change, bringing eventual environmental disaster to our planet. It’s OK to deregulate business so they can pollute our environment, take unfair advantage of consumers, and set us up for the next economic crash. It’s OK to take credit for a good economy, when it took eight years of steady management by the other party to bring it back from the last disaster you created. It’s OK to favor big agribusiness over family farms, wrecking our local water supply and rural economy in the process. It’s OK to give massive tax cuts for the rich, then cut spending to roads and other infrastructure, public schools, health care programs, etc., then say the other guy is going to raise your taxes. It’s OK to take and spend unlimited money deceiving voters with a tsunami of misleading or false ads. It’s OK to use negative advertising, because you know it suppresses voter turn out among those likely to vote for your opponents. It’s OK to make it harder for many citizens to vote, especially those hurt most by your policies. It’s OK to cheat by redistricting so you can win control of government with a minority of the votes. And it’s OK to cry “socialism” about programs that actually help average Americans, many of which have been around for almost 80 years, all the while dismantling those popular protections. All this and more, it’s all OK, if you are a Republican.
