Letter to the Editor: When is enough, enough?
Letter To The Editor

From Donna Phillips

Monroe

To the editor:

Yes, when is enough, enough? What has this wonderful country of ours become? We cannot continue to hear the news of another shooting and more deaths! Why do we allow military type weapons to be sold or brought into this country? They are not needed for hunting! This is ridiculous and has gone way too far.

It sounds like the House of Representatives had presented some type of gun legislation, but it was rejected by the Senate. It is time that Sen. Mitch McConnell and the Republicans start standing up for this country and not for a president that will cause hate and division. His rhetoric fuels people that might just need that extra impetus to act on destructive or hate thoughts they have.

We’ve always had white supremacists, but lately they haven’t had the affirmation to act out until this president. Yes, the president can blame the violent actions on mental illness, but his actions and words certainly do not help those people. They maybe feel like he gives them permission.

Another area I’d like to address is the pro-life issue. I do not personally believe in abortion. But I can’t see how people can vote for someone so irrational just on the issue of anti-abortion. In fact, the party and the president say they are pro-life but really, they are “pro-birth.” Do they think about what happens to these babies once they are born? Instead of helping them, benefits are cut that would help many of these children as they grow up. How can they be pro-life and continue to do nothing about all the people that have been shot in these mass murders? Also, what about all the children that are being held in the immigration detention places? All of these lives matter as much as the unborn. As Christians, we look at the whole life cycle as pro-life, from birth to death. We need government leaders, not a dictator, that will work for our wonderful country and for the needs of everyone, not just the rich.

When will people look at the whole picture? Think about this when you vote again! Voting is a privilege we have. It’s up to us.
