Monroe
To the editor:
I am one of many people who are involved in various groups in Monroe — the downtown, nonprofits and other city/county government committees. Many of us were concerned and sad to hear about Phil Rath’s resignation.
Whenever we needed information from the city, Phil was always there to help out. He was always good natured, knowledgeable and had good advice to give on what would be the next step.
Monroe Theatre Guild was also fortunate to have Phil join in many performances. When a major character had to leave the cast of a celebration for 150th anniversary of Turner Hall, we called Phil to step in at the last minute and he did an excellent job — even did a short dance!
Not only was Phil an asset to the community, but his wife Greta and their family were very involved in many events — school functions, sports and music. Their oldest daughter, Bekah, is an outstanding young woman who was even chosen to be a high school representative on the city council and took that very seriously. Greta has been involved for many years with the YMCA and its many sports.
We don’t want Phil to leave without expressing appreciation from all of us who he has helped through the years.
