Letter to the Editor: Tax the income brackets fairly
Letter To The Editor

To the editor:

On January 3, 2019, the Democrats in the House of Representatives took over after winning the election in November. Republican President Donald Trump will not have control of the House and the Senate any more, which he has had for the past two years. Republicans will now have to talk with Democrats and bargain with them if they are ever going to get any bills passed.

Probably one of the most important issues that won the Democrats the House is the fact that they were backing President Obama’s healthcare system that covered pre-existing conditions. About 90 percent of the voters favor a single-payer system such as Canada has and it will be discussed because we now have a two-party system, hopefully working together again.

Republican President Donald Trump thinks the biggest issue is to build this big, beautiful, expensive 20-foot wall made out of solid concrete. And that there is no other way to stop the immigration of mostly poor people from other countries. Democrats, on the other hand, support more economically built fences, supervised by border security and drones that can take pictures of what is going on with any kind of problem which will supplement the border guards in what they must do to keep law and order. Since Nancy Pelosi was elected Speaker of the House, she’ll have to promote their views until the presidential election in 2020.

Since the Democrats are going to run at least 20 candidates in the primary, their major issue is how are we going to pay for the growing expenses of government. Since there are a number of ways to do this, one of them being a financial transaction tax on stock trades like Europe does. Also, tax the total wealth at 2 percent. Another way that I believe would be the best is to raise the top federal income tax bracket to 70 percent for anyone making over $10 million a year with different tax brackets for lower incomes based on ability to pay, which is exactly what Democratic President Franklin Roosevelt did during World War II to make sure we won the war without going bankrupt.

One thing for sure that didn’t work is Republican President Donald Trump’s government shutdown, which dried up worker’s income. The Republican answer that they should borrow money to pay their bills is stupid and isn’t something that any true conservative of either party should suggest.
