Letter to the Editor: Re-elect a man with dedication
mail box

From Mark Rohloff,

Green County

Sheriff

Monroe

To the editor:

I am frequently asked to explain why there is a contested race for the sheriff’s office, and what does it matter. To give a reasonable response to the question, I can honestly reply with this:

Jeff Skatrud used to be a sheriff, but he resigned midway through a single term. Why he quit is immaterial. What matters is this; he believed some other pursuits, or a personal career opportunity was more important than his principle obligation to the voters of Green County. To consider him again as a candidate would be a mistake, and a step backward from the progress we have made.

I have been your county sheriff for these past five years. I was appointed to the office in 2013 and then elected to a full term beginning in 2015. With more leadership education and experience than my opponent, I am a careful manager, returning thousands of dollars to the county from the budget every year. I have addressed and updated critical policies and procedures to keep our office running smoothly, our deputies and citizens safe, and reduce liability, which includes protecting the inmates in my custody. I’ve also implemented a comprehensive professional development plan to attain higher employee performance standards well into the future.

Please remember on November 6th to re-elect a man who took the oath, and will keep it. I am dedicated to fulfilling my responsibility to the citizens of Green County.
