Letter to the Editor: Protect the working class
Letter To The Editor

From La Vern Isely

To the editor:

Shortly after Republican Donald Trump became president, he gave a huge federal income tax break in December, 2017 to the wealthiest class of billionaires, who make up the list of the richest 400 of the Forbes list. Since he, himself is a billionaire, he made sure it took care of his own interests first. He gave very little tax relief on the lower 95% of the people. This really created a deficit in our government in the amount of money they have on hand.

Republican President Donald Trump is now talking about cutting unemployment benefits from $600 to $400, hoping the states will pick up $100 of the cost. With less revenue coming into the states due to the unemployment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, how can the states afford the added cost? Republican President Donald Trump also talks of cutting the payroll tax which funds Social Security and Medicare.

On top of this, our president hasn’t even figured out the fact people shopping for their necessities, as well as gathering at meetings, that they must wear face masks to protect themselves, as well as others and having it up to each person’s discretion if they should wear a face mask or not, which is just too risky considering the increase in deaths which is getting worse with each passing day.

The only real hope our voters have is the fact that we have a vote for president on Nov. 3, 2020 between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden, who was chosen from a huge field of Democratic candidates. As I was writing this letter, Joe Biden chose Senator Kamala Harris of California as his vice-presidential choice to campaign with him. I’ve already purchased a number of Democratic signs consisting of presidential candidate Joe Biden, Congressman Mark Pocan and Kriss Marion for Wisconsin State Assembly which anyone can obtain through the Green County Democrats.

There are supposed to be three debates between the two presidential candidates particularly if they are on TV where everyone can watch them even if they don’t have cable or satellite TV. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the safest way to vote is by absentee ballot which we are going to do. So, make sure you request a ballot from your local clerk.

Let’s make sure we elect a man who has the views of the working class.
