Letter to the Editor: Paying bills conservative, honest
Letter To The Editor

From LaVern F. Isely

To the editor:

Republican President Donald Trump is the worse president the United States ever had. He’s a nice-looking con man working for billionaires. That’s why he got his Republican-controlled Congress at that time to pass, and he signed in December 2017, a federal income tax package favoring the wealthy by reducing the top bracket.

There is proof of that when you read the latest Forbes 400 issue, where they used to have some millionaires at the bottom of the list and now, even some billionaires are getting put off because Forbes uses a limited number of 400.

While it’s great to pay income tax because that means you’re making money, unless you have a lot of bad habits, you are going to achieve your goals and get your home, farm, business or car paid for but there has to be a system where everyone pays their fair share based on ability to pay.

There is one particular candidate running for president, Democrat Elizabeth Warren, who is going to try to pass a 2 percent wealth tax on assets above $50 million which is fair if you are going to get our bills paid because you can’t keep going in debt faster and faster every year like too many of the Republicans in office are doing.

Republicans used to believe in ‘living within your means’ which is still the way to do it. Instead, they are going along with Republican President Donald Trump, who has bragged about going bankrupt six times which I totally do not agree with. If you are good, you should make it the first time. While it’s legal to go bankrupt, once or twice, you never do it six times. No individual or bank would loan them money. Now we have Donald Trump for our president who’s continuing to lie and tell the world what a great businessman he is.

We have another Democrat, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, who just got elected to office, who is too young, 29, to run for president but she comes up with some great ideas, even though the Republicans say she is too liberal. What is too liberal about wanting to get your bills paid? That’s conservative and being honest. She proposed a federal income tax system that anyone making over $10 million a year be taxed at 70 percent.
