As a senior citizen living in southwest Wisconsin, one of the most important issues to me on this year’s ballot is access to quality, affordable health care. As a sitting member of the Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County Board, I’ve witnessed Wisconsin come a long way over the years. In 2010, our state was ranked No. 7 for overall health care quality. Fast forward to 2018 and we are 1st in the nation. Many factors contribute to this remarkable success, but one I would like to specifically point out is our representation in Madison from State Representative Todd Novak. Throughout his time in office, Todd has continually worked to make healthcare coverage more affordable. First, he supported a bill to help protect those with pre-existing conditions from losing their health insurance. Then, he authored a bill that establishes a reinsurance program that will lower insurance premiums in the individual marketplace.
Todd has continued to be a leader in the fight against Alzheimer’s and dementia in Wisconsin. He led an initiative in the budget which increased the number of Dementia Care Specialists in our state from 19 to 24. This program is especially important in rural areas, like ours, where there may be fewer resources for those facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Thanks to Todd’s advocacy on this issue, he saved this position from being cut in our area.
In the most recent state budget, Todd voted to fully fund SeniorCare, a program that helps seniors with the cost of their prescriptions, and supported a request for a 10-year renewal of the SeniorCare program. He understands the importance of making sure seniors in our area are able to afford the prescription drugs they need. Todd has proven to be a successful advocate for residents of the 51st Assembly District, especially those who need help the most. For me, the choice is clear. Todd understands and listens to the issues that are important to those he represents and will continue to fight for us in the State Assembly. Vote for Todd Novak on Tuesday, November 6th!
