Letter to the Editor: More questions for wind farm plans
newspaper

To the editor:

I am very concerned about the wind turbines that are proposed for our area. Of the 10-plus farm owners who have supposedly signed leases, I would like to ask them a few questions. We all need the answers to these and others, because we’re all going to be affected by them.

First question is why has there been so much secrecy? Were you told real estate values will go down? What about the effect on your family’s health, the increase in electrical bills, or the effect on internet, cell phone, TV and radio reception? Our wildlife will disappear, the productivity of our cows and other livestock will be diminished. Tiled land and wells will be affected. Our beautiful landscapes and country sides that are so peaceful will be a thing of the past. Tourism will suffer. Increased incidences of cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and depression.   What assurances do you have of their maintenance and removal? Remember if they become insolvent, you the land owner would be next in line. We were told they are to be over 500 foot tall, only 2 to be around 300 feet. To the people in the township and county if that land owner becomes insolvent, we the people pick up the bill. There are way too many questions that have not been asked. We were told at the ‘open house’ in Juda that the profits from these go to France and the power they generate would mostly go to ComEd in IL. So why are we, the ones who so far have not been heard or even had a say in all this, going to be forced to foot the bill and live with the consequences. I feel we have all been fed a line of bull (am including the landowners who signed leases).

I would like to see us all request a moratorium allowing time to study the issues.

Without the tax incentive they (wind turbines) make no sense at all.
