To the editor:

I want to send my congratulations to everyone who voted in this huge midterm election and turned the House into what will be a busy place because of those who ran were quite remarkable. The variety of people was absolutely awe-inspiring. They came from every part of our nation and they came to work for the people.

We are fortunate that the House will have good leaders in all the committees. Some members were so proud to be women and they said they wanted to serve as a leader. It is exciting to see this enthusiasm. It is also exciting that many of the new legislators are under the age of 40. Who knows what fantastic things might lay ahead.

I so wanted democracy to be at work once again. The House now has the power of one of the branches of government and we have seasoned legislators working with brand new ones to bring the best of each of them to the table where all will be heard and decisions will be for the people and not for donors.

In the House dark money will be refused and the wealthy can stay at home and count it because it is not going to buy any legislators. From the way they campaigned they listened to what people told them especially health care that covered pre-existing conditions, jobs, lower cost medicines and in Wisconsin the return of the unions.

I had to laugh when I heard Barack Obama when campaigning pointed to the Republicans and said, “They are all mad. They won but they are not happy. They are all mad.” I will add their leader Donald Trump was divisive and talked about that far away caravan which he never mentioned again when the dust hit the ground and the Democrats won. Democrats were not mad. They were happy! Excited! Ready to work!

Now let’s think of someone exciting to run against Trump in 2020. Michelle Obama would be exciting. She hasn’t announced anything but she is beautiful, she is intelligent, she has a law degree and she doesn’t lie. People know her. She has campaigned in the past. And I imagine the dinner conversations with Barack were often political after all she lived in the White House with him for eight years. She raised her daughters and maybe she is ready. Her debate with Trump would be merciless.
