Letter to the Editor: Food collection a success
Postal Carriers 01

From Yvonne Schutte

To the editor:

Thank you for helping us Stamp Out Hunger! I would like to sincerely thank all those who helped the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” by placing nonperishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11. We had a great crew of retired carriers that collected food from the carriers, and a great crew of people at the Post Office, who sorted all the food before it was taken to the Green County Food Pantry right here in Monroe. Thank you to Scherer Moving for transporting all the food to the food pantry. Thank you to Pizza Hut for donating pizzas to feed hungry volunteers.

We did not receive the blue bags that we usually delivered to every house as a reminder this year. Because of that, I’m sad to say that we only collected 4,300 pounds, which is less than half of what we collected last year. We will have the bags to deliver to people next year, so hopefully the total will go back up. In the meantime, I am sure that the food pantry will need additional donations throughout the summer, and into the fall, so please keep them in your thoughts when you are sending out donations.
