Letter to the Editor: Education proves Vinehout is best choice
newspaper

From Kevin M. Kuehl

To the editor:

I went to the Democratic Gubernatorial candidate forum back on July 17. While everyone involved did a great job to organize it, it’s a shame that such an event draws so few people. I’m afraid even now too many people pay too little attention to what is happening in our state and country. Of course, those who really need to up their political knowledge aren’t reading this letter either. But for those who are reading this, here’s my take.

Any of the eight remaining Democratic candidates are all very intelligent and all would do much better for our state then Scott Walker has. All agree with the basics of bringing proper funding levels back to our public schools and infrastructure, and bringing affordable high speed internet to rural areas, expanding the opportunities for small businesses. They all believe every job should provide a living wage and want to increase the minimum wage to $15/hr. They would all bring the federal Medicaid Expansion money (that Wisconsin taxpayers paid in to Washington) back to Wisconsin, and they would expand BadgerCare to be a public option for all. And they all agree the FoxConn deal is a bad deal for Wisconsin and would stop it if they could.

Personally, I believe Kathleen Vinehout would make the best candidate against Walker, and be the best Governor. She’s a down to earth, caring human being. She’s an organic dairy farmer in Buffalo County, who has repeatedly won her State Senate races since 2006 in a rural and otherwise conservative western district. She understands and relates to the rural Wisconsin voter and she knows exactly what Walker has done to the State budget.

She has been writing alternative State budgets, showing what can be done when you put people first. She knows the state government inside and out, and she would hit the ground running if elected. And she’s not just smart, but a quick mind and wit. I’m sure she would rip up and tear down Walker in a debate. On the other hand I can also get a little misty eyed when I hear her talk about the issues and the people she cares about, … if only she could be our Governor. And finally, from the point of view of Republican attacks on “hot button” issues against Democrats, they really have nothing on her. Learn more about her at kathleenvinehout.org, and vote on August 14.
