Letter to the Editor: Dems are visible
Newspaper 2

From LaVern F. Isely

Monroe

To the editor:

Democrats are very visible and easy to talk to. While I’m not a registered Democrat or Republican, I’m proud to be a Democrat because they have monthly meetings held presently at Leisure Lanes run by Chairman Phil Fransen, where everyone can come if they choose and ask questions. They presently even have an office on the south side of the Monroe Square which is promoting their various candidates and you can pick up signs to put in your own yard for the fall election.

Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, who I support, visited the office on the Square on Cheese Days where she met with a number of her constituents before she went out and mingled with the Cheese Days crowd. When you call Senator Baldwin’s office, her aides answer the phone. They are not like Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson who is mostly on tape which says, ask your question and he’ll get back to you later, which hardly ever happens.

On the other hand, my Republican friends, who I enjoy talking to, say their main source of news is Fox News cable, which is the only station they listen to. I’ve listened to Fox News cable and find that MSNBC, CNN, C-Span, Public TV all cover the news better, particularly with the present discussion of the Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who has a lot of problems, starting with his temperament problem and his so-called Christian up-bringing when he was in high school and college.

This is definitely not the best candidate that Republican President Donald Trump could have selected, considering all the other candidates he had to choose from. The fight that the Democrats are putting up to make sure they have a better candidate for the Supreme Court makes me proud to be a Democrat.

I’m presently reading the great book “Fear: Trump in the White House” by Bob Woodward, who has written books about the last nine presidents and it hasn’t changed my mind, so I’ll remain a Democrat.

What the many presidents do with regard to South Korea is very important. When I was in the Air Force and stationed there from 1957-58, the economy and the country were virtually bankrupt. It has now grown to be equal to communist Russia and no way do I believe we should give it away to the North Koreans.

So, get involved in politics and vote.
