To the Editor:
Diana Vance wrote a great letter in the Monroe Times of Oct. 6, 2021 concerning why both political parties should raise the federal income tax on the wealthy and corporations rather than continuing to go farther in debt and giving the wealthy and corporations even more tax breaks.
Federal income taxes must be based on ability to pay like Democratic President Franklin Roosevelt did to win World War II. While this is a great, great idea, we must have a library system in Green County that’s working with the people and the Monroe Public Library is certainly not one of them being closed where people can contact their legislators through the computers.
The names of some of the libraries are Brodhead Library, Albany Library and Monticello Library which all have various requests they want their library patrons to follow. It would be nice if people would get vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine which would eliminate some of the problems. If not, they must be required to wear a mask when entering the library because unless you have a computer at home, it’s the only way you can contact your legislators.
Democratic U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse zeroed in on the way dark money is being used to distort our system by the wealthy and corporations when he was on MSNBC on Oct. 6, 2021.
Since the Monroe Library hasn’t always been closed and my wife and I used it and wore our masks and used sanitizer to wipe down the machines made us both feel we were relatively safe because both of us have had both COVID-19 shots, as well as a booster. And we recently go our flu shot.
When you call the library, they say you can get books to read which makes you wonder, if you liked the book, you couldn’t promote it, unless you could get the use of the library.
