To the Editor:

I think that it would be pertinent to remind everyone of the history of the Christian Flag. At the present time there are over 210 million people in America that are identified as Christian. This flag is part of our American Heritage. 

The flag has a white background which represents purity. In the upper corner is a blue square, the color of the waters of baptism and an emblem of heaven, the home of the Christian. In the center of the blue is a red cross which is a symbol of faith and trust. The red cross is the chosen symbol of Christianity and color red is for the shed blood of Jesus Christ. 

The idea of the Christian Flag was first conceived on September 26th, 1897, in Brooklyn, New York and was the unofficial flag for many denominations until it was officially adopted by the National Council of Churches and Christian Churches Together on January 23rd, 1942. The Christian Flag and the Flag of the United States are predominately displayed in many churches today. 

The Christian Flag even has a pledge which says: I pledge allegiance to the Christian Flag, and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands; one Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again with life and liberty to all who believe. 

I propose during the month of July that we honor the Christian Flag and what it represents.
