From Mary Gooze and Mary Rasmussen
UW Carbone Cancer Center
Dear Friends,
Our 3rd Annual One Woman, Many Lakes Art Show will be held this year on August 6 and 7 at American Wine Project in Mineral Point. This show is a fundraiser for Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC), a terminal disease. (MBC is breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body; it is also called ‘Stage 4 breast cancer’) Over 40,000 American women die from MBC every year, and less than 10% of funds raised for breast cancer go toward the research needed for those of us with MBC. Mary Gooze, of “One Woman, Many Lakes”, has lived with MBC for 10 years. She and her husband Rob created the MORE FOR STAGE 4 FUND — these funds go directly to UW Carbone Cancer Center for MBC research. None of the money is spent on ADMINISTRA-TION or advertising. Mary Rasmussen was diagnosed with MBC in 2018.
We are once again looking for donations of art from friends, craftspeople and artists. Thank you to past donors, and please share this letter with other who may be interested! These items will be offered for sale in the beautiful event space at the winery on August 6 and 7, with all funds going directly to MORE FOR STAGE 4! Your name will be proudly displayed as a contributor, and we hope this will generate interest in your creations. Another option is to purchase items from your favorite artist or crafter and then donate it to the sale! American Wine Project will promote the event, and posters and flyers will be distributed in southwestern Wisconsin. The amount of money raised will be MATCHED up to $5000.
Donated art can be dropped off at Mary Rasmussen’s home on the west side of Madison or at the winery in Mineral Point. (We can also arrange scheduled pick-ups at other locations if necessary.) If you’re interested, we can provide you with flyers to post at your favorite places! Please include several of your business cards (if you have them) with your donation, and a suggested price for your craft item(s) or art. We have sold everything from beaded bracelets to greeting cards, small paintings to large ceramics! It’s a very eclectic mix, and the winery setting is lovely. There will be live music on Sunday afternoon on the patio, and small-plate food items will be available all weekend.
Please contact one of us via email for further details or if you have any questions. Thank you for your time and consideration — research is our best hope, and every donation will help us get one step closer to a cure!
